Untitled # 2, from the series Holding my breath, is a site-specific installation that examines elements of intimacy and power in the hierarchy between nature and culture. This work references elements and aesthetics from BDSM culture to examine the symbiotic and fluctuating roles of the submissive and the dominant and how these roles might be applied to our relationship with the environment – our reliance but careless dealings with nature, and its mercy towards us. Using live streamed video footage from the outside garden, and grow lamps to simulate sunlight this work also examines our own desire to bring the natural world into the realm of the unnatural.

Foliage and sound have been sourced from the Japanese garden that flanks Campbelltown Arts Centre and held on balancing points knotted and fed through the ends of chains. Cared for by the Friends of Campbelltown Arts Centre each Monday working in collaboration the Arts Centre Gardener, Geoff the work will change and evolve to connect with the garden outside that it is made from.
